It’s a Kale Kalikimaka!

It has definitely been a productive year, both in the farm fields and in the various fields of study throughout our educational pipeline.  As we close up our eventful 2011 calendar year, we definitely want to extend a mahalo nui to all for your friendship and patronage throughout 2011.

Our goal at MA‘O is to re-establish our community through ‘āina-based activities, nurturing and growing our youth and their families within an environment of communal ownership and pride.  Youth leadership and social enterprise development is our core objective, with strategies to build a localized movement to put the value of aloha ‘āina into action. Over time, it is our hope that the ‘ōpio will once again identify themselves to the ‘āina that nourishes them, re-building a strong sense of stability, security, and belonging to the ‘ohana nui.

In subscribing to our CSA program, purchasing our products at a farmers’ market or store, eating at a restaurant to which we sell produce, and/or providing support in any other way, you have been an important part of MA‘O’s ability to fulfill our objectives.  Our successes are your successes, and we are both humbled and privileged to know you.

This week’s CSA box boasts many lovely products, including Swiss Chard and two types of kale.  MA‘O’s chard is doing extremely well in the fields while our kale is also starting to come in very nicely.  All CSA subscribers should be able to look forward to both curly and lacinato kale bunches in the next couple of weeks as our organic fields continue to thrive.  If you’ve never made kale chips before, now might be a great time to try it.  It tastes great and is a much better healthy alternative to the high fat, high calorie potato chip.  If you’re up for it, just google “kale chip” and choose a recipe that looks good.  Let us know how it turns out and feel free to send any pics to our Facebook page, we’d love to know how it turns out.  Have a “No Panic” New Year!
