FEʻE Ho‘oilo (Cool-Season) Internship
Join this hands-on, part-time internship in organic vegetable farm management and food production designed to elevate participants’ experience in farm operations through Climate-Smart Agriculture (C-SA), cultural revitalization and community building.
SUMMARY
Internship Length available for maximum 8 months between September and May.
Weekly Schedule
Each week participants will be working to support farm operations on one of the partnering farms.
Timing of work hours will depend on the specific site that each intern works at, and hours can range between ~18 and 40 hrs/week depending on availability and need.
Internship Responsibilities
Work in partnership to manage organic farming operations including field preparation, fertilization, planting, crop fertility and care.
Assist sales, harvests, and distribution of product and help to drive the economic performance of the business.
Nurture existing business relationships, networks and alliances to grow the capacity of the partnering farms.
Model mutual love, respect and a willingness to work.
Internship Eligibility
Pursuing education opportunities (e.g., undergraduate or recent college graduate)
Ability to work independently;
Knowledge and/or interest in sustainable agriculture, particularly for mitigating the impacts of climate change;
Knowledge of and/or interest in Hawaiian cultural traditions with a commitment to the Hawaiʻ i's rural communities and the greater Oʻ ahu region;
Driver's license, comfortable driving heavy trucks and equipment, able to work or long periods in a hot environment and lift up-to 50 pounds; and,
Compensation
Stipend is from $1080 up to $2160/month depending on agreed upon schedule. This educational stipend is provided upon successful completion of all internship activities.
