Workshops and talk-storys
Workshops (on farm and at markets) with both farmers and co-producers featuring a topic expert and producer mentor. These sessions will be approximately 3-hours long and scheduled in the afternoon to accommodate the general schedules of farm production. CTAHR extension agents, and organic farm leaders (e.g., associated with HFUU), will be mobilized to help convene workshops. Topics will include, but are not limited to:
● Organically managing the health and quality of soils in Hawaiʻi
● Developing and managing tropical, indigenous organic agroforestry
● Biodiversity and IPM to manage insect services and disservices in the tropics
● Scaling safe on-farm compost making
● Cover crop application and management techniques
● Heavy-machinery operation and maintenance
● Mechanization evolution in scaling organic food production
● Selling veggies at a farmer’s market
● Organic Food and Food Hubs
● Career pathways in organic certification
